About Chris
Chris Avey’s work is grounded in a lifetime of understanding how things grow. He studied Tropical Horticulture at the University of Florida in Gainesville, where his focus was originally on forestry. Rather than continuing his studies abroad, he chose to return home and work on his parents’ anthurium farm, applying his knowledge directly to the land and developing a deep respect for long-term cultivation.
In the 1990s, Chris began planting trees with a future in mind. That forest was an investment in time, patience, and material integrity. It would take decades before it was ready to be thinned, harvested, and shaped into something lasting.
In 2016, after completing a timber framing course with Steve Chappell in Costa Rica, Chris brought together his background in horticulture, forestry, and hands-on craftsmanship. It marked the point where growing timber evolved into crafting with it. The trees he had planted years earlier became the foundation for timber-frame structures, furniture, and finely made functional pieces.
Today, Chris' work reflects a balance of patience, discipline, and respect for natural materials—turning trees into purposeful, well-considered pieces built to last.
